Programs and Support Groups

to Help You Feel Better and Look Good

 

 

Reach to Recovery:     This is a visitation program sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The program can be started in the hospital and continued with the volunteer visiting at your home, office etc. The visiting volunteer is also a recovered cancer patient trained by the American Cancer Society and always maintains confidentiality. Bosom Buddies:          This support group is composed of a caring group of women who have had breast cancer who share common concerns, questions, and fears. They are ready to address the topics that are most important to you.

T.O.U.C.H.:                  A program for cancer patients, families, and friends to help gain better understanding and how to cope with cancer. Each T.O.U.C.H. group is lead by a health professional. There are different locations in the Birmingham metro where sessions are held

Stretch:                       This exercise program is designed to meet the needs of women with cancer.  Routines are specifically designed for the special needs of women following surgery.  As each eight week class program progresses, the focus expands to enhance total body image. There are 3 different classes held in the Jefferson-Shelby county area.

Look Good

Feel Better:                  This program is specifically designed for patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment.  The program handles all the questions that may concern you most—dealing with hair loss, caring for your skin, a 12 step guide for makeup, nailcare, etc.

Y-Me Breast Cancer

Support Program:        This program explains the different types of treatment for breast cancer.  The program also helps the patient to cope successfully with the emotional trauma of their illness.  The program offers hotline counseling and educational programs including self-help meetings for the patient, their families, and friends.
