COVID-19 Response

During this season of uncertainty and change, Birmingham Breast Care is committed to providing the best care for our patients.  As the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the world, it has necessitated changes in many areas of our daily activities.  Out of an abundance of caution and following the guidelines of the CDC, ADPH and JCDPH, we have made several changes to our processes and your visit may look a little different.  Thank you for your patience as we work through some of these new procedures.

During your visit, our staff will be wearing masks, gloves, and/or gowns.  We are doing this for your protection and ours.  Each exam room is cleaned between patients and, rest assured, we are following expert advice on sanitizing all of our patient rooms to protect our staff and the patients that we serve.

Everyone entering the office must now also wear a mask covering both the nose and mouth.  This can be a homemade covering of your choosing.  You must supply your own mask as we do not have an excess supply.

Our waiting room is closed.  Patients will be screened and temperature taken at the time of their appointment and will be escorted directly to an exam room. Only the patient is allowed in the office unless other arrangements have been secured in advance.

There is no paper exchange between patients and staff.  Appointment check-in and medical updates are required via the patient portal.  This is for all new as well as established patients.  Each patient will receive detailed instructions via email prior to their appointment.

We realize that this is a time of uncertainty and change that is difficult for everyone.  One thing that hasn’t changed is our concern for you and your family.  We are here to serve you!  Please let us know how we can help.  Thank you!

Why Birmingham Breast Care?

When confronted with a life challenging disease you need physicians and a practice that genuinely puts YOU in the center of the page.
At Birmingham Breast Care, we focus on YOU with:
  • Physicians and Staff dedicated to meet patient needs with a high tech, high touch approach to ALL breast care including breast pain, discharge, palpable abnormalities, abnormal imaging, genetic susceptibility and more....
  • Appointments available within a very short timeframe.  We try to work around your schedule.
  • In-Office biopsy by Ultrasound and Stereotactic (Mammogram) guidance -- Often available in office at 1st appointment.  Avoid going to the operating room for diagnosis.  Needle biopsy is the STANDARD OF CARE for diagnosis.
  • Complete analysis and evaluation of your clinical situation with detailed explanations to help YOU understand and decide about all aspects of your diagnosis and treatment. It is your body and we desire for YOU to be well-educated about all of your options.
  • High Field Strength (3Tesla) MRI with dedicated breast coils available on campus providing image details better than found in many university and academic facilities.
  • Hidden Scar and Oncoplastic techniques utilized to ensure cosmetically pleasing surgical results.  We mobilize breast tissue to fill the defect left from lumpectomy (excision of breast tissue).
  • Cryoablation of Benign Lesions. Avoid going to the operating room to have a benign nodule removed. If it bothers you or you want it gone, we can eliminate it through cryoablation performed in our office.
  • Patient Navigator in office:
    • Guides you through your journey
    • Explains treatment and care options presented by your physicians
    • Coordinates appointments and communicates with other members of your healthcare team (medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, plastic surgeon, primary care, etc.)
    • Manages medical paperwork - insurance, FMLA, disability, employment, etc
    • Supports cancer patients and their families in understanding and coping with the emotions that accompany a cancer diagnosis
  • Long-term follow-up. We care for YOU long beyond the post-operative period as part of your care team in obtaining and evaluating resolution of your disease.
  • Physicians dedicated to the most advanced “standard of care” techniques in breast health bringing experience, quality training and a caring spirit to each patient.
  • Genetic testing and counseling to assist patients with increased risk of breast cancer
  • Holistic support. We strive to take care of YOU mind, body and spirit. We know The Healer and will pray with YOU if desired.  We believe our relationship with YOU is part of the healing process.
