"Caring for patients' body, mind and spirit."

Having founded Birmingham Breast Care on 11/1/1994, Dr. Susan Winchester birthed and built an amazing breast care practice focused on the patient -- providing the best in a high-tech and high-touch approach to breast care. Dr. Winchester retired in October of 2024, passing the torch on to Dr. Princess Thomas Williams to continue the legacy built by Dr. Winchester for 30 years. Birmingham Breast Care continues to focus on caring for patients in a way that honors Dr. Winchester's care for her patients.
It is only natural that patients want to learn as much as possible about their doctor, particularly if that doctor is a surgeon and the patient is preparing for surgery.
Dr. Winchester brings the utmost in surgical and technical skills to all her patients, and gives them warm, caring, and individualized follow-up attention. She believes that every patient has the right to know their diagnosis, all treatment options and their prognosis. Dr. Winchester answers each patient’s questions in an honest and forthright manner. Patients are then able to make informed decisions about their treatment plan.
Dr. Winchester, a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, has been practicing in Birmingham for over 20 years. She is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Winchester developed expertise in breast surgery, needle biopsy, hidden scar and oncoplastic surgery techniques through additional specialized education. A member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Diseases, she considers it vital to be aware of any new techniques that could be provided to her patients.
“I am called by God to be a physician and I am certain that He enables my judgment intraoperatively. My practice offers a high tech, high touch approach and embraces the care of my patient’s body, mind and spirit.”
